Co-Generation

The City of Tampa is working to modernize an electrical cogeneration facility with heat recovery for anaerobic digesters located at the Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. Biogas is a product of organic waste breaking down in anaerobic digesters. Biogas cogeneration allows the simultaneous production of electricity (cogeneration) and heat. The electricity can be used to power the surrounding equipment and the heat is reused to regulate high temperatures necessary for microbes in the digester. Cogeneration maximizes fuel and converts it into electricity with 35% efficiency and into heat with 40% efficiency. The City is updating cogeneration equipment, which is scheduled to be operational in Summer 2022.

We are excited to work on this issue. If you have questions email Whit Remer.
