DALE 2018

On Friday 10/12/18 the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Council of Tampa, FL made history by hosting it’s first ever “D.A.L.E.” event.

A group of high school students were selected from Jefferson High School to participate in this experience that brought them downtown on a Friday.

Their day began at the Tampa History Museum, followed by a trip to City Hall and a surprise visit to the Mayor's chambers with a tour hosted by the Mayor himself, and lastly a visit to the Bank of Tampa. As you can see from the pictures below many of the students were excited to see the “big” buildings of downtown Tampa!

Apart from having a catchy name, DALE stands for “Developmental Acceleration for Latinos’ Education,” serving as a platform in conjunction with Hillsborough County Public Schools to inspire young Hispanic high school students to pursue a college degree, learn about different career paths, see how STEM is applied in corporate America, and understand the importance of diversity at the workplace.

A big thank you goes to our first corporate sponsors at Bank of Tampa and the Tampa Bay History Center, and to our executive speakers Anthony Perez- VP of Commercial Relationship at Bank of Tampa, Maria Steijlen - CFO of Tampa Bay History Center, Araseli Martinez Peña - HCPS Coordinator of Hispanic & Multicultural Outreach, and of course our City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn!

Most importantly, a huge thank you goes to the students of Jefferson High who attended this event, and who inspired us to continue to serve the community we represent and love.....dale, go pursue your dreams!
