31st Annual Tampa-Hillsborough Storytelling Festival - April 16

Once upon a time, in little red schoolhouse in a magical land called Tampa, thousands gathered to hear imaginative tales, historical myths and wild yarns. Come and be enthralled by dynamic storytellers from across Florida at the 31st Annual Tampa-Hillsborough County Storytelling Festival on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 9 a.m. ? 4 p.m. The festival takes place at Hillsborough High School, 5000 N. Central Avenue and is free and open to the public.

This year?s festival features nationally known storyteller and author, Donna Washington, who will tell at 9:30 and 1:30. In addition to storytelling the festival includes a book fair, your favorite storybook characters, balladeers, swapping corner and other children?s hands-on activities.

The Tampa-Hillsborough County Storytelling Festival is produced by Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System and the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation Department, Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, School District of Hillsborough County, the Tampa-Hillsborough County Storytelling Festival Committee with additional support from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.

About Donna Washington
donna washintonDonna Washington is also a multiple award winning recording artist. She received a 2002 Parent's Choice Award for her first independent recording "Live and Learn: The Exploding Frog and Other Stories". The October 2004 edition of the ALA Booklist gave Donna's second CD, "A Little Shiver" a recommended review. It also won the 2004 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award and 2005 Storytelling World Honors. Her third CD "Fun, Foolery, and Folktales" also won the 2004 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award and a 2006 Storytelling World Honors. Her fourth CD "The Sword and The Rose" has won an iParenting Media 2005 Excellent Product Award, a 2005 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award and a 2006 Storytelling World Award. All of her CDs have won 2005 Children's Music Web Awards. Donna's fifth CD "Angels' Laughter" was just released in May 2006.
