Annual SOFIC lands at Tampa Convention Center

The water, land and sky around the Tampa Convention Center will hum with a team of International Special Operations Forces (ISOF) members demonstrating their capabilities during ISOF Week. Tampa is not coming under siege next week, it’s just the place to be for about 11,000 SOF-focused professionals as the 2018 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) arrives.

SOFIC, running May 21-24, is co-hosted by U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base, and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) of Arlington, Va. The conference offers a unique opportunity for the SOF community to assemble to discuss USSOCOM’s requirements and challenges and the industry’s capabilities and solutions. Roughly 100,000 square feet of exhibition space will house about 425 companies.

The capabilities demonstration is a highlight of this year’s SOFIC. SOF operators from the United States and eight other countries will conduct a capabilities demonstration in the area surrounding the convention center to highlight the interoperability of U.S. and partner nations.

“Events like SOFIC facilitate rapid and clear communication between USSOCOM and industry, resulting in high-quality, cost-effective, innovative solutions and capabilities delivered to operators when they need it,” said retired Air Force Gen. Hawk Carlisle, NDIA’s president and chief executive officer. “Industry leaders can learn about requirements, hear directly from acquisition experts and develop a game-plan to meet USSOCOM’s needs both today and in the future.”

The conference opens with USSOCOM’s Marketplace, a resource room of experts who can answer questions about doing business with the command. The Innovation Showcase spotlights a select group who will present their products and services. There are also educational sessions, demonstrations, networking opportunities and a variety of SOF-centric panel discussions and workshops during SOFIC.
