The Internal Audit Department released their audit report of the Solid Waste - Environmental Compliance.

“The City of Tampa, through its Solid Waste Department, has been responsible for the collection and disposal of its solid waste since 1927.” Pursuant to the City’s Charter, the Solid Waste Department is responsible for “all matters relating to sanitation including the collection, transportation, recycling, reclamation, conversion, and disposal of garbage and other refuse.”

“In 1981, the City created the Office of Environmental Coordination (N/K/A Environmental Coordination Division) to oversee the City’s solid waste disposal activities and the first retrofit of the McKay Bay Refuse-to-Energy Facility.” The City of Tampa Solid Waste Ordinance specifies the duties and responsibilities of the City, its businesses and residents, and its contractors with respect to solid waste activities. The City of Tampa Recyclable and Recovered Materials Ordinance details the requirements for businesses engaged in recycling
activities and business owners who do not choose to use the City’s recycling services.
