Business and community leaders will join Mayor Pam Iorio for a sign unveiling ceremony signifying the start of construction for Phase I of the Bayshore Boulevard Enhancement Project. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Bayshore Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue (on the waterside).

This phase of the project will provide for continuous bicycle lanes in both directions along Bayshore Boulevard between Rome Avenue and Platt Street. The existing six-lane roadway between Rome Avenue and the Davis Island Bridge will be modified to a four-lane roadway with a 14-foot, grassed median. Upgrades to the existing traffic signals and enhanced pedestrian features at the intersections of Bay-to-Bay Boulevard and Platt Street are also part of this phase.

The project is funded through the FDOT Local Agency Program as an enhancement project. The anticipated completion date is the end of September 2011. The contract has been awarded to Pepper Contracting Services, Inc. and construction cost for this phase is $1.48 million.
