Buckhorn Announces First of Several Official Appointments

Mayor Bob Buckhorn has announced the first three appointments to his senior staff. Both Police Chief Jane Castor and Fire Chief Tom Forward, who have served admirably and with distinction, have been reappointed to their respective roles. New to the leadership team will be James H. Shimberg, Jr. who has been named City Attorney.

Shimberg, educated at the University of Florida during both undergraduate and law school, has been a practicing attorney with Holland & Knight for over 26 years. During his tenure, Shimberg has served in multiple management roles, including three years as the executive partner in Tampa and co-chair of the National Land Use practice group. Currently, he is the local practice group leader for the Tampa Bay real estate and land use practice.

Shimberg has extensive experience at local, regional, and state levels having represented clients on issues related to zoning, land use, governmental comprehensive planning and development of regional impacts, and land development and permitting issues for both commercial and residential matters. Shimberg is an A-V rated attorney, the highest honor bestowed by the esteemed Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, and he is listed in the Best Lawyers in America Guide under both real estate and land use and zoning law. In full compliance with the City of Tampa's code of ethics, Shimberg will leave private practice and join the City full time on May 2, 2011. His salary will be $175,000 annually.
