Mayor Buckhorn will officially name the fitness trail at Woodland Terrace Park in honor of neighbor leader Ruth J. Fleming. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Woodland Terrace Park, which is located at 6408 N. 32nd Street.

"The Woodland Terrace Park exists today, in part, because of Ruth Fleming's work, so it seems only fitting that the City of Tampa can cement her legacy by renaming this trail in her honor,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "She has never stopped being advocating on behalf of her Woodlawn Terrace neighborhood."

Mrs. Fleming was instrumental in reorganizing the Woodland Terrace Neighborhood Watch to work with the Tampa Police Department to combat crime in the Woodland Terrace neighborhood. She also successfully advocated for the care of Woodland Terrace neighborhood's sick, bereaved, elderly and children.

The "Ruth J. Fleming Trail" is one-third of a mile long and features fitness equipment such as a warm-up station, rowing machine, leg stretch and push-up bars.

Woodland Terrace Park is also home to the Gwendolyn M. Miller Community Center and offers the After School Activity Program as well as other youth and adults programs.
