Press availability with Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. The City of Tampa and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will unveil a multi-purpose Youth Development Park to the Springhill Park Community Center in Sulphur Springs.

WHY:

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the City of Tampa will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil a youth baseball field at the Springhill Park Community Center on Monday, March 24. Sulpher Springs Park will provide local youth with a clean, safe place to learn, play and grow.

The $1 million facility has an all-weather, low maintenance field including new dugouts, scoreboard, backstop and bleachers for use by youth baseball throughout the city. The park will be gifted to and maintained by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation department, with whom the Ripken Foundation will work closely with to create and implement character education programming and clinics, including Badges for Baseball, a multi-faceted mentoring program that partners with local law enforcement as coaches and mentors to at-risk youth.

In just five years, the Ripken Foundation has created 56 completed parks across the country, impacting over 235,000 kids annually. In 2015, the Ripken Foundation impacted over 1 million kids nationwide through its Youth Development Parks and mentor programs.
