Calling All Gardeners! Your Landscape Could Win a Community Water-Wise Award!
June 30th is the deadline for submitting your residential or commercial landscape as a candidate for a Water-Wise Award. The Community Water-Wise Awards were created more than a decade ago to recognize those of you who have committed to beautifying your landscape, conserving our water resources, and protecting the environment by applying Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM principles where you live and work. The City of Tampa Water Department supports the popular award program and its sponsors, Tampa Bay Water and the UF/IFAS Extension Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program.
Whether your landscape is residential, commercial, part of a subdivision or multi-family complex, a school, or a government facility, here is an opportunity for your water-efficient garden to be recognized regionally. We encourage Tampa homeowners and business owners to participate in this competition and show off their gardens exhibiting landscape success the Florida-Friendly way!
“Our customers can have award-winning landscapes, without over watering, by applying the principles of Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM”, said Chuck Weber, Tampa Water Department Director. “It is important to the quality and legacy of our City to have healthy, water-wise landscapes.”
Fill out the easy application online and upload photographs of your “winning” landscape at www.TampaGov.net/SaveWater. While there, you can also view photographs of winning yards from previous years. For more information about the program call (813) 274-8121, option #5. Applications take just a few minutes to complete and must be submitted by June 30.
Winners are determined by a panel of judges who visit each candidate landscape and tabulate scoring in four categories: retention of existing trees and vegetation; landscape design and plant selection; stormwater runoff protection; and efficient irrigation. Winners receive recognition from the City Council and an artful commemorative stepping stone.
