City of Tampa Announces Partial Lineup for FREE Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park Grand Opening Mother’s Day Weekend

Tampa, Fla. (April 25, 2018) – Are you looking for a FREE (entry) two day event full of family fun, activities, waterfront views and music on Mother’s Day weekend? Yes, that’s right, we said free (entry)! Look no further than the opening of Tampa’s brand new Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, Tampa’s largest investment in green space in decades. Riverfront Park will be a game changer for the West River and Tampa’s downtown-- think three times the size of Curtis Hixon.

“This park truly has something for everyone,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “We look forward to, decades from now, looking back on what will serve as the anchor for the West River Redevelopment and reminiscing on what will be a memorable weekend. So come out, bring your family and friends and enjoy two full days of activities in Tampa’s new Riverfront Park!”

Over Mother’s Day weekend, May 12th and 13th, Julian B Lane Riverfront Park will open to the public featuring a series of very special events and musical talent. This 25 acre park features relaxing water views, dynamic public art, sports fields/courts, picnic areas, and a large rowing center. Little visitors can enjoy the new playground and splash pad. In addition, this park will serve as one of the city’s premium event spaces, able to accommodate up to 16,000 people in a single lawn. From recreation to leisure, Riverfront Park has something for everyone!

SATURDAY

Saturday’s Riverfront Rock will feature a full day of events from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. including the Mayor’s Mac & Cheese Throw down with live music starting at noon.  Bands will play a variety of music including Three Sheets to the Wind America’s #1 tribute to Yacht Rock with more acts soon to be announced.  The night will be topped off by an unforgettable panoramic fireworks display on the river.

SUNDAY

For the grand finale, The Florida Orchestra will perform a free Pops in the Park concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13 – Mother’s Day. It’s free symphonic, Broadway and movie music under the stars, including 1812 Overture and an explosive patriotic salute with fireworks. All under the baton of guest conductor Vince Lee. The concert also celebrates 50 years of TFO in Tampa Bay as the state’s premier and largest professional orchestra, under the leadership of Music Director Michael Francis.

The orchestra will collect non-perishable food for Tampa Bay Harvest’s annual food drive in bins throughout the park.

Before The Florida Orchestra takes the stage, the U.S. Navy Band Southeast will perform a free concert of mostly patriotic music starting at 5:30 pm. The program includes Armed Forces on Parade, a Sinatra Medley, Stars and Stripes Forever and more. Established in 1995, the ensemble is one of 11 official U.S. Navy Bands.

Food trucks will be on site as well as beer provided by Pepin and Titos Vodka all available for purchase.
