City of Tampa Expedites Bayshore Blvd. Safety Action Plan

Tampa, Fla. (June 6, 2018) -- The following action steps are being taken immediately to expedite the planned safety improvements for Bayshore Blvd.  More information about the project can be found here:

Additionally, the Bayshore Blvd. Phase 3 Project, which is currently under construction, will fill in the sidewalk gaps on the west side of Bayshore Blvd. and construct the bike lane south to Gandy Blvd. More information on this project can be found here:

Change all existing speed limit signs to 35 mph.

Add enhanced speed limit signage that will include:

  • Enhanced Conspicuity Plaques
  • Speed Limit Pavement Markings

Construction will be completed by August 2018.

Construct pedestrian crosswalks with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) for the proposed crosswalks at:

  • S. Dakota Ave.
  • S. Delaware Ave.
  • Midblock between S. Brevard Ave. and W. Swann Ave.

Construction to be completed by October 2018.

Construct Traffic Calming Measures:

  • Install additional striping to narrow lanes to 10’ wide
  • Provide a striped buffered bike lane

Construct pedestrian crosswalks with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) south of Rome Ave. as recommended by the on-going pedestrian study.

Construction to commence in October 2018.

 

Further Steps:

Other safety upgrades to Bayshore Blvd:

  • Reconfiguration of the Bayshore Blvd. and Bay to Bay Blvd. intersection will be reconfigured with Hillsborough County’s W. Bay to Bay Blvd. Resurfacing Project (scheduled for construction in March 2019).
