Tampa, Fla. (December 2, 2014) – The City of Tampa will complete the launch of Accela software in January 2015, and in advance of the new online based permitting and zoning software, the City of Tampa is offering free training for customers.

The full suite of Accela software tools will become public on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. The City of Tampa Development Services Center will be closed on Monday, January 12, 2015 preparing for the transition.

“Last year, Tampa permitted a record $2 billion in development. That number indicates that Tampa is growing, and in order to continue to facilitate that growth, we have to make it easy to do business with the City of Tampa,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “From the simple home renovation to major development projects, Accela will save our customers time and result in a quicker response.”

Accela allows customers to complete zoning and permitting applications online as well as to check on the status of those applications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without having to visit the Development Services Center.  All records will also be available for the public to access, allowing anyone to review and search for information through the Accela Citizen Access portal.

In December 2013, the City of Tampa launched the Accela Citizen Access portal, which included 29 of the City’s Land Development processes for subdivision, special uses, design exceptions, variances and re-zonings.  Early in 2014, the City rolled out additional Land Development processes for Planning and Urban Design and Historic Preservation processes.   The Accela launch in January 2015 will be provide for building and construction permitting as well as inspections to be completed online, marking the last in a series of phased launches.  To access the Accela Citizen Access portal, please visit aca.tampagov.net

In preparation, the City of Tampa is offering free training on how to use Accela. A webinar will be held on December 16, 2014 with the remainder of trainings to be taught in person at the Development Services Center, located at 1400 North Boulevard. These classes are open to anyone in the public, but an RSVP is required. To RSVP, please click the link below or call (813) 274-3100.

Revising the City of Tampa’s permitting process was a focus of the Mayor Buckhorn’s Economic Competitiveness Committee, a task force of community leaders with the mission of reviewing and streamlining government processes and regulations.

The software was paid for in large part by permit fees through the Construction Services Enhancement Fund.
