Residents, visitors, and businesses have a new, mobile option to pay for on street parking within the City of Tampa.

The City of Tampa has contracted with Parkmobile, and the new service is available beginning today, July 1, 2013. Customers can utilize Parkmobile's mobile app, the internet, or by calling toll free to pay for parking on the street within the City of Tampa.

Parkmobile offers a regional parking solution, and currently provides this service for the city of St. Petersburg.

"The goal is to offer residents and visitors a simple, online or mobile payment option. The fact that Parkmobile is already available in other cities in our area makes it that much more convenient for our customers," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "This is one more step we are taking to make Tampa a more tech-savvy, accessible city."

To use the new Parkmobile system, customers can register for free at and where customers can download a mobile app for iPhone, Android, Windows, and Blackberry smart phones. After setting up the account, customers can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone. They can also select the option to receive text message alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior to their parking session expires.

Parking rates vary by location. Parkmobile charges users a $0.35 convenience fee per transaction, which will be waived until September 30, 2013 while customers become acquainted with the program.

Motorists will continue to have the option to pay by cash or by credit card for parking on street at one of the solar-powered kiosks. The City of Tampa intends to extend Parkmobile throughout all City garages and lots over the coming year.
