Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced that the City of Tampa received four responses to the request for proposals (RFP) for the historic Water Works building in Tampa Heights. Columbia Restaurant, Ella's Americana Folk Art Café, The Straz Center for the Performing Arts, and Water Works Enterprises all submitted a proposal for review.

"Each proposal offers a unique way of re-energizing the property," said Mayor Buckhorn. "I am very pleased with the quality of respondents and the ingenuity of their proposals. Each operator who submitted a proposal possesses a remarkable vision for the Tampa Heights community and for the redevelopment of a local historic landmark."

All four of the proposals submitted included a stipulation in the response for the City of Tampa to assist in providing parking for the project, and the City of Tampa is exploring the potential for additional parking in the area.

The City of Tampa released a RFP on September 13, 2011 for the acquisition (long-term lease or lease with option to purchase) and redevelopment of a portion of the Water Works Building as a café or restaurant. The mayor expects to make a decision on which proposal to accept before the end of the year.
