City of Tampa urges residents to “Know your zone”

The official evacuation zone maps were updated for 2017 and some of the zones have changed. The City of Tampa Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to look at the map for all of Hillsborough County located at under the “Find your evacuation zone” tab. The map shows the updated evacuation zones with emergency contact information and is available in both English and Spanish. Evacuation zones are divided into five color-coded levels and the map shows evacuation routes as well as the nearest public shelters.

During a state of emergency, city officials will use zones to direct residents to an adjacent quick and safe evacuation route. Residents should know their zone before an emergency and be familiar with evacuation routes to enable a quicker exit in the event of an evacuation order. Depending on their proximity to the waterfront, some residents that are not in a designated evacuation zone should not leave their location so to prevent crowding evacuation routes.
