Crews to Test Green Dye in Preparation for Mayor?s River O?Green

Watch as crews test dye a small portion of the Hillsborough in preparation for the 2014 Mayor’s River O’Green. Speak with Chief Engineer Eric Weiss about the logistics that go into this event, including monitoring tidal flows. On Saturday, March 15, 2014, Mayor Bob Buckhorn will host the third annual Mayor’s River O’Green, and in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, crews will dye the Hillsborough River kelly green between Cass Street Bridge and Kennedy Bridge. The dye is potable water grade, non-toxic, and biodegradable; it’s used primarily to trace leaks and in search and rescue efforts in large bodies of water. Finally, in the spirit of Saint Patrick, all attendees are encouraged to donate food items to help the Salvation Army carry out their mission of helping those in need. There will be a tent on site to collect the donations.
