TPD urges community to lock car doors and fend off zombies

ARREST DATE/TIME:      October 19, 2015 at 12:47 p.m.

INCIDENT LOCATION:   Ybor City Parking Garage, 1500 East 5th Avenue, Tampa

SUSPECT:               Calvin Jackson, DOB: 3/18/1995, 1509 Harvey Court, Tampa

A combination of expert police work and vigilant Ybor City employees landed a serial auto burglary suspect behind bars.  After a thorough investigation, Tampa Police detectives arrested Calvin Jackson for committing multiple auto burglaries in the Ybor City parking garage and the surrounding area.

Over the span of several weeks, Jackson entered at least five unlocked vehicles parked inside the garage during the late evening hours.  He stole credit cards and valuables out of each unlocked vehicle.

Jackson committed his latest auto break-in on October 13, 2015.  Detectives were able to identify him as a suspect with the help of an Ybor City security officer and an employee who works in the area.  On October 19, 2015, officers took Jackson into custody while he was meeting with his probation officer.  He was transported to the Orient Road Jail without incident where he faces 13 separate charges for burglary and theft along with one count of violation of probation for a previous burglary.

Community members are reminded to lock their doors whenever they are away from their vehicles.  This simple safety measure can dramatically reduce the chances of becoming the victim of an auto burglary.
