Detectives Arrest Homicide Suspect

SUSPECT: Jose Guillermo Torres-Melvis 6-21-92 A-7802 River Resort Lane, Tampa

CHARGES: 2nd Degree Murder

VICTIM: Jamarie Lavon Hodges, DOB: 9/01/95, 3909 Ellicott Street East, Tampa,

DETAILS: Jose Guillermo Torres-Melvis was charged with the 11/6/11 murder of Jamarie Lavon Hodges. ROC officers received information that the suspect was staying at the address in Tampa. The officers set up surveillance at the home and verified he was there. When he left the home, officers arrested him without incident. Homicide detectives interviewed him and he was booked into the Orient Road Jail.

On 11/6/11, a fight broke out in the 3900 block of Ellicott Street between the victim’s group of friends and the suspect’s group of friends. During the fight, one of the victim’s friends was robbed. The victim was attempting to help his friend when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him in the upper body. He was transported to the hospital where he died from his wounds.
