Detectives Charge Charles Waits in Brito Murders

SUSPECT: Charles Waits, B/M, 11/24/1991, 3612 Belcher Drive South, Tampa
CHARGES: 1st Degree Murder (x2), Home Invasion Robbery
DETAILS: On 06/05/11 at approximately 5:50 a.m., the victims were found shot in the head inside the residence of 3021 West Van Buren Drive. Kiara Brito was pronounced deceased at the scene and Jeremi Brito died later as a result of the gunshot wound. A witness obtained a partial tag as the suspect vehicle fled the murder scene. Charles Waits admitted to transporting others and being at the crime scene with his mother's 2007 Chevrolet Impala. He also admitted to having a cell phone that detectives linked to the crime scene. Charles Waits and Tavari Grant fled the area after the home invasion and murders with jewelry, watches and an unknown amount of money. Through witness interviews, Waits was seen immediately after the crime with a firearm and items taken from the victims. Latent prints recovered from the vehicle were identified as belonging to Waits and Grant. The investigation is ongoing.
