Detectives Investigating Pedestrian Fatality on Courtney Campbell Causeway

LOCATION: Bay Harbour Drive and Courtney Campbell Causeway

VICTIM: Lynne Novello, DOB: 8/26/1966

INVOLVED: Matthew Miller, DOB: 2/16/1957


Tampa Police detectives have contacted next of kin and are continuing their investigation into a tragic accident that took place on the Courtney Campbell Causeway late Saturday night. Lynne Novello and her husband left Hogan's Beach and started walking back to their hotel room across the street at the Westin. Novello was walking ahead of her husband and she attempted to run across the Causeway alone. The driver of a Ford Expedition was heading west on the Causeway when Novello began crossing mid-block into the oncoming traffic lanes. He did not see Novello crossing and was unable to avoid striking the victim. The driver slammed on the brakes and came to a quick stop. Novello was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The involved driver in this case was not cited. Tampa Police detectives are still investigating the crash.

Location: Courtney Campbell Causeway at Rocky Point

The Tampa Police Department is currently working pedestrian traffic fatality that took place near Rocky Point Drive and the Causeway. Upon writing this release at 1226 AM the westbound lanes to the causeway are closed. Traffic investigators are currently investigating the cause of the crash. The name of the victim has not been released by the investigators.
The causeway will be closed for several more hours while the crash is being investigated.
