A witness called 911 at 1:39 a.m. and reported smoke and flames coming from the victim's home at 6709 Interbay Boulevard. Tampa Fire Rescue responded and found the victim in the living room. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he died. The Medical Examiner positively identified the victim through fingerprints, however the Tampa Police Department is still working to contact out of state family members to inform them of the death. The cause of death is still under investigation. The victim's name will be released once that notification is done.
Detectives obtained surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store that shows a four-door white car with dark tinted windows in the parking lot around the time of the incident. The department is attempting to enhance the video to see the license plate. The white female driver walked in and out of the store several times. During one visit, she is wearing a pink bandana on her head. She appears in the video a second time without the bandana. She told the store clerk that she was from Lakeland. Detectives want to interview her about this incident and urge anyone who recognizes the car or driver to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813 231-6130. The driver is not a suspect, but is a person of interest who may have information to help solve the case.
