Driver Sought in Fatal Hit and Run

Where: 50th Street & Broadway Avenue

Who: Victim: Aaron Keith Cordes, B/M, DOB: 09/09/58, 621 River Bay Drive 

Suspect driver: unknown

Suspect vehicle: a 1993 - 1994 black or dark in colored Ford Explorer with Chrome Trim. The damage should be to the right front and the right front turn signal lens cover with possible traces of paint from a blue Shopping cart that the victim was pushing. 


On May 14, 2011 at approximately 12:43 AM, the victim, who was pushing a blue shopping cart, was crossing 50th St. on Broadway (east to west on the south side of the intersection) in the crosswalk against the traffic light. The SUV was traveling north on 50th St. in the center lane and had the green light for the intersection. The driver of the SUV struck the pedestrian and continued northbound on 50th Street without stopping to render aid and exchange information. Several witnesses / good Samaritans did however stop to render aid. Tampa Police and Tampa Fire arrived and began CPR. The victim was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the victim's injuries were to sever, and he was pronounced deceased several hours later. The victim's next of kin has been notified.
