Enforcement Phase Begins in Transportation Safety Initiative
Officers are now issuing citations instead of warnings to traffic violators.
Tampa Police officers wrapped up a 60-day traffic law educational period aimed at keeping Tampa’s roadways safe. As part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow Campaign,” officers are now issuing citations to drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians who commit traffic violations.
Officers will continue to have a visible presence in several high traffic corridors throughout the city.
The department’s goal is to reduce crashes by increasing awareness of traffic laws with motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Late last year, FDOT awarded the police department a contract to maintain an increased police presence in high traffic areas to encourage all roadway users to practice safe habits.
