Father Dies in New Tampa Hit and Run Crash

Victim #1 (Deceased): Pedro Aguerreberry, DOB: 8/4/1975

Victim #2: Bennett Aguerreberry, DOB: 8/14/2014--Serious Injuries

Victim #3: Lucas Aguerreberry, DOB: 11/11/2009--Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Suspect Vehicle Description: Maroon Dodge Avenger

Tampa Police officers are actively investigating a hit and run that turned fatal in the New Tampa area. Officers now have the suspect vehicle, a maroon Dodge Avenger, in evidence. A male is also in police custody.

The incident took place near New Tampa Boulevard and Wood Sage Drive on June 24 shortly before noon. The suspect vehicle was traveling eastbound on New Tampa Boulevard when it crossed the traffic lane and collided with a family of three. The father and his two younger sons were riding their bikes on an off road trail separated by a grass median when they were hit.  All three victims were transported to a local hospital.  

Pedro Aguerreberry suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. Bennett Aguerreberry is being treated for serious injuries. Lucas suffered minor injuries. Both children are expected to recover.

During the investigation, Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies located a maroon Dodge Avenger in the Pebble Creek subdivision that was later confirmed to be involved in the hit and run. Detectives have an individual in custody. They are interviewing this individual to determine his role in the crash.
