City and County first responders are teaming up with Tampa residents for the 10th Annual “Bridging the Gap” Softball Game.  Police officers, deputies and firefighters will join Springhill Teen Council members and other local teens for a friendly round-robin softball tournament and relationship-building activities.  Refreshments and entertainment will be provided as part of the free community event.

This year, several businesses and non-profit organizations are pitching in to help ensure the event is a grand slam.  The sponsors include:  The Derrick Brooks Youth Charities Crime Prevention Task Force, City of Tampa Parks & Recreation Department, Sulphur Springs Alliance, McDonald’s Restaurant, Winn-Dixie, Pepsi Beverage Company, and Unified Community Outreach.

The “Bridging the Gap” Softball game was started in 2005 to unite law enforcement with residents living in challenged North Tampa neighborhoods.  Community participation has grown over the years.  Now, the annual softball game at the park attracts residents from throughout the city to take a swing at building positive relationships with first responders.
