Former Tampa Police Officer Donates Seats to RNC Bike Patrol

Who:  Corporal Tommy Downes and Steve Toll

When:  Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.

Where:  Tampa Police Headquarters, 411 North Franklin Street, Tampa

The same bike seat that several Olympic athletes road to success in London will be used on all 200 RNC patrol bikes. Former Tampa Police Officer Steve Toll invented the seat to prevent typical numbness and discomfort that bike officers deal with daily. The ISM bicycle seat does not have a front nose commonly found on a traditionally shaped seat. The nose can create pressure on the soft tissue area of the rider and it can compress certain nerves and arteries causing numbness and a reduction of blood flow.

Steve Toll donated all 200 ISM bicycle seats to TPD. The new seats will be an invaluable asset to the officers on the bikes. There will be two squads of officers available to display the new bike seats at the briefing. Mr. Toll will also be available for any questions and to explain how he came up with the idea for these new seats.

The 15 local law enforcement agencies that will benefit from the new ISM bike seats are:

Tampa Police Department
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office
St. Petersburg Police Department
Pasco County Sheriff's Office
Temple Terrace Police Department
Hernando County Sheriff's Office
Plant City Police Department
Manatee County Sheriff's Office
Lakeland Police Department

Gulfport Police Department
Palmetto Police Department
