DETAILS: The Hallway of Heroes is phase one of the memorial project to honor Officer Dave Curtis and Officer Jeff Kocab. Tampa Police Corporal Les Richardson painted a mural along the entryway to District III where Dave and Jeff worked. There is a glass etching with Dave and Jeff’s badges illuminated with a blue LED light. Tampa Police Detective Larry Brass created the officer’s badges with pavers in the walkway leading into the Hallway of Heroes.
Groundbreaking on a phase two memorial garden will start next month. Dave and Jeff’s squad came up with the memorial garden idea for a place for quiet reflection. Last year, District II dedicated a memorial garden in honor of Corporal Mike Roberts. Officers and Mike’s wife, Cindy, visit the garden often. The squad wanted a similar place for officers and Dave and Jeff’s family in District III.
The garden and the Hallway of Heroes were strategically placed. As officers pull into District III each day, they will drive by the garden. Once they park their cars and walk into the building, they will walk through the Hallway of Heroes and past the etching - remembering Jeff and Dave.
