Creating and maintaining a home landscape that protects our waterways while saving you time and money is the focus of Maintaining Your Florida Yard, a workshop to be held from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, March 24, at Weedon Island’s Cultural and Natural History Center in St. Petersburg, FL.

Sessions will be led by local lawn care and gardening partners of the Be Floridian fertilizer education campaign, and based on principles of water conservation and low-maintenance care. Topics will include selecting healthy nursery plants and installing them correctly, proper pruning, caring for your lawn the eco-friendly Be Floridian way, and getting started with micro-irrigation. Hands-on learning will be held in and around the Center and participants will receive free plants, resource materials and other giveaways.

Cost for the workshop is $10 and includes lunch and materials; space is limited. Registration is online only by going to www.tbep.org

The workshop is sponsored by the Tampa Bay Estuary Program and the partners of the Be Floridian campaign, Pinellas County Extension Service and Weedon Island Preserve. For more information, contact Nanette O’Hara at (727) 893-2765.
