Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced today that the City of Tampa will construct a new park and fitness trail in East Tampa around Osborne Pond.

"This will transform an eyesore into an asset for the community. From the fitness stations and trail itself to the new trees and boardwalk, there will be something for local residents to enjoy," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

The new Osborne Pond trail will create an eight foot wide, 0.5 mile long trail circling the existing retention pond. The trail will feature eight fitness stations in four different locations for adults and seniors. More than 110 trees, including palms and cypress trees, will be planted for shade and aesthetics.

The trail will also connect with adjacent sidewalks along Osborne Avenue, North 29th Street, North 30th Street, and East Cayuga Street. In addition, the park will feature three boardwalk sections that will allow visitors to walk out around the water’s edge.

Construction will begin December, and is anticipated to be complete in April 2014. Project will cost approximately $500,000, and is being paid for through Community Investment Tax funding.
