This morning, Mayor Bob Buckhorn and partners at CycleHop and Social Bicycles announced Coast Bike Share, the name of Tampa's bike sharing program. In addition, he unveiled proposed locations for the first phase of implementation, launch of the new website, as well as sponsorship opportunities.

"I am thrilled to launch Coast Bike Share, and I cannot wait until the bikes roll out on the streets in April. Bike sharing programs like ours are an easy, affordable, and healthy mode of transportation," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "Coast Bike Share is part of the equation in continuing to attract new jobs and young professionals, who want livable cities with amenities like this that improve their quality of life."

The system's name, Coast, is inspired by the tranquil waters of the Bay and embraces the natural energy that comes from riding a bike. The sun-soaked coast is what makes Tampa amazing - from the Riverwalk to the majestic Bayshore Boulevard Trail. The interlocking type in the Coast logo represents the unlimited freedom that a bike provides flowing along your chosen path, and the pinburst icon embodies the mobile technology that drives the system, marking bike locations.

"As a resident of Tampa Bay since 1996. I'm excited to be building this program here in my backyard." said Eric Trull of Coast Bike Share. "It is my goal for Coast to not only transform how we all get around and experience our neighborhoods, but to use it as a vehicle to help build a stronger sense of community."

The proposed hub locations for the first phase of implementation were also announced today. Those locations will encompass downtown, Hyde Park, Ybor City, and Davis Island.
