Mayor Buckhorn, Bright House Networks Celebrate New WiFi along the Tampa Riverwalk
Thanks to Bright House Networks, WiFi is now available for free along the Tampa Riverwalk and in major urban, riverfront parks including Curtis Hixon, Water Works, and Cotanchobee.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new WiFi will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, located at 600 N. Ashley Drive.
"When people come to enjoy Tampa’s urban core, we want them to experience our riverfront parks and our Riverwalk. Activating our waterfront with public art and festivals gives people reasons to want to live, work, and play in our downtown. Providing free WiFi is another part of that effort," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “Thank you again to Bright House Networks for sharing and investing in our vision for a dynamic, active riverfront."
WiFi is also being installed along the Kennedy Plaza Segment of the Riverwalk, which is scheduled to be complete in early 2015. Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in the West River neighborhood is set to undergo a major transformation over the next two years, and WiFi will be installed once those renovations are complete.
"Bright House Networks is pleased to continue to make life easier to visitors to the Tampa Riverwalk area," said Criag Cowden, chief network officer and senior vice president of Enterprise Solutions, Bright House Networks. “We are committed to the communities we work and live in, and our Wifi service will help people remain connected while they are out enjoying all of the great locations throughout our beautiful city.”
The WiFi, or wireless Internet, will be advertisement-free, and allow any WiFi-enabled device, such as a personal computer, tablet or Smartphone, to connect to the Internet. It will be available free for anyone to use for up to 2 hours per day or 1 GB per month. Once a user surpasses the free allocation, there is an option to purchase additional service.
