Mayor Buckhorn Hosts Mayor’s Mac & Cheese Throwdown This Saturday - Event anchors weekend of fun along the Tampa Riverwalk as part of Tampa RiverFest

This Saturday, May 2, Mayor Bob Buckhorn in conjunction with the Friends of the Riverwalk will host the second annual Mayor’s Mac & Cheese Throwdown in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, anchoring the inaugural RiverFest weekend of events along the Tampa Riverwalk.

Dozens of local eateries will compete to determine the best local mac & cheese dish. Participating restaurants include: Anise Global Gastro Bar, The Sail at Tampa Convention Center, Cigar City BrewPub, Doormet Gourmet Café, EATS! American Grill, Holy Hog BBQ, James Joyce, Yard of Ale Gastro Pub, Sono Café, Taps, Yacht Starship, Carmel, Marriott Waterside, MacDinton's, Slow & Low BBQ, Four Green Fields, Amalie Arena, WaterWorks Bar & Grill, Fusion Bowl, and Bayshore Beer.

All attendees will be able to pick their favorite as part of the “People’s Choice Award.”

All Mac & Cheese samples will be sold on behalf of the Friends of the Riverwalk, the local nonprofit focused on creative active, pedestrian and family focused activities along the Tampa Riverwalk. The event and entertainment are free and open to the public.

The event will feature craft beer and wine as well as games and activities for all ages.
The University of South Florida, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Lightning will all be onsite promoting our local sports teams. Live entertainemtn throughout the event will be provided by Connor Zwetsch, Endless Flow, and Serotonic.

Following the Mac n’ Cheese tasting, G. Love & Special Sauce will headline a free concert in the park beginning at 7:30 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., a free fireworks show will light up the Tampa Riverwalk and close out the day’s activities.

Throughout the RiverFest weekend, there will be events and activities at all 6 parks lining the Tampa Riverwalk. In addition, the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa Convention Center, and Florida Aquarium will also host events. The Tampa Museum of Art, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, and Tampa Bay History Center (children only) will feature free admission on Saturday, May 2, 2015. For more information, please visit
