Mayor Bob Buckhorn and community leaders will cut the ribbon on the improved Swann Pond on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. Swann Pond is located at the intersection of S. Rome Ave. and W. Swann Ave.

“Swann Pond has gone from being an eyesore and has transformed into a true amenity for the neighborhood. We’re bringing the pond area back to what it can and should be,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “Reopening Swann Pond is an exciting day for the Hyde Park community, whose investment and commitment is what made the project possible.”

The cost for the improvements was $848,000. The City of Tampa invested $425,000 in the project, which was matched by the community. Work on the improvements began in November 2014.

The Swann Pond improvements included restoration of the existing fountains in the center of the pond and removal of the invasive plants that have overgrown into the pond area. Additionally, pedestrian friendly walkways with several shaded seating areas with cast stone finials were installed along Swann and Rome Avenues.
