Mayor Bob Buckhorn will kick-off the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department's new Lacrosse program.

This summer, kids attending the City's summer camps will be introduced to lacrosse in specialized one-day clinics, like the one Mayor Buckhorn will attend this week at Copeland Park. For many kids, this will be their first exposure to the sport, and the clinics are meant to inspire interest. Mayor Buckhorn will visit with the children participating in the clinic before lacing up and joining in!

Starting in Fall 2013, children enrolled in the City of Tampa’s afterschool programs will have the option to join an intramural league, and a recreation league will also be started.

Lacrosse has been gaining popularity in recent years. The University of Tampa has recently added both men's and women's lacrosse programs, and USF offers strong competitive club programs. During the 2013-2014 school year, Hillsborough County high school students will have an opportunity to play lacrosse through a partnership with Hillsborough County Lacrosse Alliance (HALAX).
