Mayor Buckhorn Launches Autism Friendly Tampa Advisory Committee

Mayor Buckhorn has selected members to a new Autism Friendly Advisory Committee to help guide and support the city’s Autism Friendly Tampa initiative as it moves forward. Members include:


  • Councilman Luis Viera, City Councilman for City of Tampa District 7
  • Dr. Karen Berkman, Executive Director at Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD-USF)
  • Angela Smith, Community advocate
  • Alex Smith,  Pro Scout with Tampa Bay Buccaneers  
  • Holly Marino, Business Operations Manager at All About Speech and Language
  • Katherine Diaz, Founder of Camp Coast
  • Mindy Stevens, Director at CARD-USF
  • Christine Rover, Program Planner & Analyst at CARD-USF
  • Rob Lamke, Chief Operating Officer at Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI)
  • Joyce Cotton, Director of Marketing and Community Partnerships at WEDU
  • Gage Sosso, Program Assistant at CARD-USF
  • Kristen Nieves – Chief Operating Officer at Glazer Children’s Museum
  • Vicky Westra, Founder of Autism Shifts



“This group is an incredible cross section of Tampa advocates representing professionals, businesses, families, and individuals on the spectrum all working together to create an inclusive culture throughout Tampa,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “Their experience and expertise will serve the city well as the Autism Friendly Tampa initiative moves forward ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, belongs and is welcome. Thanks to the incredible partnership of CARD and their team, we are making tremendous progress in employee trainings, recreation programming, and additional resources.”
