Mayor Bob Buckhorn will join Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman and community leaders to cut the ribbon on the completed Donut Pond Pump Station, part of the larger Duck Pond area stormwater improvements, on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. The Donut Pond Pump Station is located at 2239 E. 113th Avenue.

The Duck Pond Stormwater Improvement Project is being done in partnership with Hillsborough County to alleviate flooding issues in North Tampa. The neighborhoods surrounding University Square Mall were hit hard by flooding during Hurricane Francis in 2004, which led to evacuations, and floods frequently during seasonal rains.

"The new pump station and stormwater improvements will make a noticeable impact in the quality of life for residents in North Tampa," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. "Flooding issues don't stop at the city's borders so I appreciate the partnership with both Hillsborough County and SWFWMD in making this project a reality."

The City's portion of the project included construction of the pump station on Donut Pond as well as construction of the 113th Avenue stormwater force main, which is a pipeline connecting the new pump station to the new 30th Street stormwater force main.

The Donut Pond Pump Station resembles a single-family residence in order to blend into the neighborhood.

The pump station was constructed by CH2MHill as a design-build project as a part of the Utilities Capital Improvement Project (UCAP). Greeley and Hansen is the Engineer of Record. The cost of design and construction was $7 million. Financial assistance for this project was also provided by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

In January 2013, Mayor Bob Buckhorn opened the completed Alline Avenue Pump Station, part of the larger Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvement Project. The Alline Avenue Pump Station, which also resembles a single-family residence, is located at 2921 Alline Avenue in South Tampa.
