Mayor Buckhorn to Present Awards at 27th Alliance Luncheon
Tampa, Fla. (October 8, 2015) – Mayor Bob Buckhorn will present four awards during the 27th Mayor’s Alliance for Persons with Disabilities Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 16, 2015, to be held at the DoubleTree Hotel Westshore, located at 4500 W. Cypress Street, in Tampa. The event begins at 10:45 a.m. with an art showcase and an array of exhibitors, and the awards luncheon will follow at noon.
This year’s Emcee is local celebrity Jack Harris, and the keynote speaker is Dr. Elizabeth Perkins, Associate Director and Research Assistant Professor of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC), at the University of South Florida. Dr. Perkins has a PhD in Aging Studies, and is the co-author of a popular textbook: Physical Change and Aging: A Guide for the Helping Professions. She has also published numerous articles and book chapters in prestigious journals in the medical and disability fields. Mayor Buckhorn will recognize excellence in service to persons with disabilities by presenting awards in the following categories: Joe Sanchez, Jr. Leadership; Employer of the Year; Excellence in Media; and Outstanding Community Service/Volunteer of the Year Awards.

The mission of the Tampa Mayor’s Alliance for Persons with Disabilities, under the auspice of the City of Tampa Mayor’s Office, is an effective advocacy organization whose goals are to increase opportunities and the quality of life for persons in Tampa who are disabled.
