Mayor Bob Buckhorn and representatives of Tampa Hotel Partners, LLC will break ground on the Classic Federal Courthouse and kick-off the $25 million project which will transform the Courthouse into a 130-room Le Meridien Hotel that will include a signature restaurant, outdoor dining, a 2,400 sq. ft ballroom and meeting space. The project is being developed by Development Service Group (DSG) of Memphis, TN which is the same team that developed the award winning Le Meridian Hotel – Philadelphia which is located in a historic YMCA in downtown Philadelphia that was built in 1907.

Construction is estimated to take 14 months.

The Classic Federal Courthouse is an elegant Beaux-Arts style building, completed in 1905 and features stone, marble, three-story columns, towering windows, and oak trim throughout. The building was first used as a post office and customs house, and later became a federal courthouse. The building has a Local Historic Landmark designation and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
