More than 50 Foster Children to Be Adopted on National Adoption Day at the Hillsborough County Courthouse
On Friday, November 15, 2019, more than 50 foster children will leave the Hillsborough County Courthouse with new forever families. It is all part of the Hillsborough National Adoption Day celebration at the George Edgecomb Courthouse in Tampa, FL.
National Adoption Day, held each November in conjunction with National Adoption Month, helps raise awareness about the adoption of children and teens from foster care. Eckerd Connects and their partners believe there are no unwanted children, just unfound families. They hope events like this will inspire other families to reach out and learn how they can change the life of a child.
Adoption finalization hearings, normally closed to the public, will be open this Friday to guests and members of the media, to celebrate Hillsborough National Adoption Day.
Chief Judge Ronald Ficarrotta says, “National Adoption Day is the happiest day of the year at the Hillsborough County Courthouse.” Several families have agreed to share their adoption story with the media. Please contact me for specifics.
Adoption finalizations are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., with Judges Kim Hernandez Vance, Lisa Campbell and Thomas Palermo presiding. With many families and friends expected to attend the ceremony, space in Courtroom 1 will be limited. It is recommended that media have their cameras in place, in the courtroom, by 9:20 a.m.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, who has two adopted sons, is this year’s featured speaker. Secretary Chad Poppell, with Florida Department of Children and Families will also be speaking.
