Officers Rescue Men from Capsized Boat
WHEN: June 28, 2011, 4 p.m.
WHERE: 1,000 feet North of the Howard Frankland Bridge
VICTIM 1: Ezequiel Batista, H/M, 1/18/1975, 3612 Whittier Street Avenue, Tampa
VICTIM 2: Josue Ramos, H/M, 3/24/1987, 2690 Coral Landing Blvd, #618, Palm Harbor
DETAILS: Tampa Police Officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop on the Howard Frankland Bridge when they saw two men swimming away from a capsized boat. The officers helped the men to shore. The men fell off the boat when it hit a wave. Ezequiel Batista's leg and shoulder were injured when the boat ran over him. He received lacerations from the boat’s propeller and was transported to Tampa General Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The boat sank and the Tampa Police Marine Patrol recovered the boat.
