LOCATION: 4200 block E. Cayuga St
SUBJECT: Wayne Wilson DOB 10/01/1985
Tampa Police officers were dispatched to N. 40th St. and E. Osborne Ave. for reports of "shots heard" and someone screaming in the area. As they were canvassing the area, officers were advised of additional "shots heard" near N. 42nd St. and E. Cayuga St.

Two officers were on Cayuga St. when they encountered an adult male subject, later identified as Wayne Wilson, who was armed with a firearm and entering the street approximately 15-20 feet from them. The officers activated their vehicle's police lights and verbally identified themselves as police officers while also ordering Wilson to drop the firearm.

Wilson failed to obey the lawful commands from the officers to drop the firearm and ran towards the officer's police vehicle while raising the firearm towards them. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking Wilson.

Officers provided first aid for Wilson until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported him to the hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Wilson was charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Deadly Weapon & one (1) count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The officers were not injured. Their names will not be released at this time. Both officers are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure while the investigation is ongoing. They have been with the department for four years.
