Officers Spot Robbery Suspects in Getaway Vehicle

Suspect #1: Luis Angel Rodriguez, H/M, 02/17/1984, 17317 Forge Drive, Spinghill
Suspect #2: Felix Alexis Nieves, H/M, 11/16/1987, 6603 West Wellington Avenue, Tampa
An officer patrolling the area spotted the Green Honda Accord with the license tag matching the description of the vehicle used in four robberies. As the officer attempted a traffic stop at Rome Avenue and Oregon Avenue, the driver took off. As the officer followed the suspects, they crashed into fence at Oregon Avenue and Main Street. Two suspects bailed from the car. K-9 Indo tracked one of the suspects into a vacant apartment at 1521 West Green Street. Detectives are working to identify the second suspect. Once the suspect in custody is charged, I will release his information. This could be several hours depending on the interview process.
Detectives believe today's suspects are the same suspects involved in three other robberies (four total robberies) within the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County. The victim in the Sweetbay robbery does not have a phone. It was taken during the robbery.
WHEN: December 29, 9:30 p.m.
WHERE: Walmart, 1505 North Dale Mabry Highway.
VICTIM: Julie Gatlin, 07/12/1974, 1307 East Norfolk Street, Tampa
DETAILS: The suspect grabbed the victim's purse while she was in the Walmart parking lot. The passenger of the vehicle reached his arm out the window and snatched the victim's purse from her hand. The suspect fled eastbound.

WHEN: 12/30/11, 8:30 a.m.
WHERE: Sweetbay, 5050 10th Avenue East, Tampa
VICTIM: Twalla Killins, 07/31/1969, 3914 Neptune Street, #1, Tampa
TRUCK DRIVER: Steven Reed, 8/22/60.
VEHICLE: 1997 Honda Accord
DETAILS: The victim was walking into the Sweetbay store when the suspects pulled up along side her and grabbed her purse. As she was still holding on to her purse, she was dragged approximately 40 feet alongside the car. A truck driver making a delivery witnessed the incident and followed the vehicle to obtain the tag, but the vehicle was stolen. The victim sustained lacerations on her face, arms and legs as a result of the incident. Air Service, ROC and patrol responded to search for the suspects. There is still an active search for the suspects. Detectives are working with witnesses to descriptions. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers or TPD at 813-231-6130.
