Keep Unwanted Medications from Getting into the Wrong Hands

What: Tampa Police Officers will collect unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications from citizens to prevent them from getting into the wrong hands. Attorney General Pam Bondi will speak about how important the initiative is during the 10 a.m. news conference.

As part of the Tampa Police Department's ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and prevent prescription drug abuse, officers are taking part in Operation Medicine Cabinet along with other Bay Area law enforcement agencies. On August 27, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. citizens will be able to drop off any medication they no longer use to one of two law enforcement collection sites. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting medications at the Sweetbay, located at 2535 State Road 60 East in Valrico, FL.

Citizens who wish to get rid of any unwanted medications can remain anonymous.
