Pirates Warn of Impending Invasion of the City

Last Tuesday, on a cold January morning two elite members of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla’s Ultra-Secret Special Operations Unit infiltrated Tampa’s defenses and stormed into City Hall, presenting the Mayor with a warning letter from their Captain, J. Rex Farrior, III.  The warning letter, signed in blood commands that Mayor Bob Buckhorn meet with Captain Farrior at high noon on Tuesday, January 26th in downtown Tampa to negotiate a peaceful surrender of the City, and avoid a long and costly battle.

It has been whispered the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, accompanied by an elite corps of his finest mates, are planning to descend upon downtown Tampa on January 26th, arriving at approximately 11:30 a.m. accompanied by the customary theatrical noise props (cannons) to “discuss” with Mayor Bob Buckhorn the advantages in surrendering the key to City of Tampa in advance of Saturday’s historic Gasparilla Invasion.  Should the Mayor choose not to voluntarily meet the Captain at the appointed date and time, it is feared he may be taken by force and  respectfully delivered to the appointed meeting place, rumored to be at Lykes Gaslight Park on Franklin Street, between Kennedy and Madison.

The 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest begins on Friday evening, January 29th with the second annual Gasparilla Pre-Invasion Celebration in Downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park featuring The Swon Brothers, special guest Howie Day and The Hip Abduction.   Tampa’s historic Community event continues on Saturday, with the Gasparilla Invasion, scheduled for 11 a.m. with the Jose Gasparilla docking tableside at the Tampa Convention Center’s Invasion Brunch at 1 p.m. Following the Mayor surrendering the key to the City at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates will begin at 2 p.m. at Bay to Bay and Bayshore. Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla has proudly presented Tampa’s historic Gasparilla Invasion and Parade of the Pirates since 1904.

Media parking for the Mayor’s Raiding Party event will be available on the north curb of Kennedy, between Franklin and Florida.
