SUSPECT: Tavari R.Grant, B/M, DOB: 7/1/92, 2709 North Lincoln Avenue, Tampa
CHARGES: First Degree Murder (2 counts) Home Invasion Robbery
Detectives determined the suspects went to the home with the intention of robbing the victims. They willingly opened the door for Charles Waits because they knew him. A short time after the suspects were inside, they shot Jeremi and Kiara Brito in the head. They stole jewelry, electronics and possibly cash from the home before fleeing from the scene. A witness obtained a partial tag number, which lead detectives to Charles Waits who was previously considered a person of interest in the case. He is now upgraded to a murder suspect. He remains in jail on unrelated drug charges. Through physical evidence and investigative work, detectives developed Tavari Grant as a suspect. On 6/9/11 at 1:15 p.m, detectives conducted a search warrant on Grant’s home at 2709 Lincoln Avenue where they seized incriminating evidence. Grant was transported to TPD’s Downtown Headquarters for an interview with detectives. He was uncooperative. He was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail on two counts of First Degree Murder and Home Invasion Robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
