Police Arrest Suspect in Last Night's 22nd Avenue Shooting

Location: 1006 East 22nd Avenue
Victim #1: Walter L. Wright, B/M, 7/21/51, 913 East 23rd Avenue, Tampa
Suspect: Eugene S. Harris Jr., B/M, 11/11/76, 3200 37th Avenue North, St. Pete, FL
Tampa Police officers have arrested the suspect who shot a man at 1006 East 22nd Avenue. Shortly after the January 5th shooting, police officers spotted Eugene Harris Jr. running northbound from the scene. Plain-clothes Rapid Offender Control (ROC) Corporal Gary Pruitt located him in a nearby alley. Harris was uncooperative with the officers. A witness came forward and positively identified Harris as the man who shot Walter Wright. Harris was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Firearm) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
When the officers arrived on the scene they found Walter Wright lying in front of the residence. Wright was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition with possible life threatening injuries.

On 01/05/11, at approximately 2217 hours, officers responded to 1006 E. 22nd Avenue regarding a subject being shot. Arriving officers found the victim lying in front of the residence. A subject wearing dark clothing was last seen running northbound from the scene. The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and is in critical condition. Detectives responded and are actively following leads and interviewing witnesses. As more details of the incident unfold, additional details will be released. They identity of the victim is currently unknown.
