Approximately 100 family members, friends and co-workers of fallen officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis attended a roadway dedication ceremony on Monday, August 8th at the Pepin Hospitality Center. At the end of the ceremony, Chief Jane Castor and Senator Arthenia Joyner pulled a cover off of a large metal sign placed in the median of 50th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that read "Officer Jeffrey A. Kocab and Officer David L. Curtis Memorial Highway."

During the 2011 Legislative Session, State Senator Jack Latvala and Representative Jim Frishe sponsored and passed legislation to dedicate the stretch of 50th street to the two fallen officers. Senator Arthenia Joyner was a co-sponsor of the bill, and co-hosted Monday’s designation ceremony.

Officer Jeffrey Kocab and Officer David Curtis lost their lives on June 29, 2010 when a routine traffic stop turned deadly.
