Quick Arrest Halts Armed Suspect's Crime Spree

BUSINESS: Stop & Pick Food Center 1815 W. Waters Ave

VICTIM: Edmil D. Cuenca (04/09/77) & Khawaja Naser (05/10/66)

Defendant : B/M Devin L. Bryant (07/25/90)


DETAILS: The defendant approaches two individuals whom he does not know and points a firearm at them in front of the Fountainbridge Apts. (8402 Waterford) He shoots several times at them but they were not struck. At the same time Victim Cuenca is pulling into the apartment complex to pick-up his wife. As Victim Cuenca attempts to leave the complex the defendant jumped into victim Cuenca's vehicle armed with the gun and demands that he drive off. He fires a round inside the vehicle. Victim Cuenca and his wife run from his vehicle at which time the defendant also exited and ran east to the "Stop & Pick Food Center" (Citgo) at 1815 W. Waters Avenue.
The defendant entered the business takes a drink and attempts to exit without paying for it. The store employee confronted him and the defendant pulls out the gun. The employee runs out of the store and the other employee runs into an office. The victim beats on the cash register and fires a round into the register in an attempt to open it.
The defendant attempts to leave the store and confronts the store employee outside the store. The defendant physically attacks that employee and the pulls off the victim's jacket. The defendant takes the jacket and enters the store again. The defendant puts on the employee's jacket and a skullcap and was in the process of walking out of the business when patrol officers confronted him at gunpoint. The defendant surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Upon being taken into custody the defendant kicked out the rear passengers door window of a Tampa Police Vehicle causing approximately $750 in damage to the doorframe and window.

The store employee suffered minor injuries.
