On Saturday the 13th at 10am, Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Tampa community leaders will reopen Cuscaden pool after a $3.1 million dollar renovation. The pool, located in V.M. Ybor City, was closed in 2009 by the city due to cracks and leaks on the pool surface. The city decided to install a heater in the pool allowing the pool to be open year around.

The pool, which opened in the 1930s, was named after Arthur W. Cuscaden a Tampa pioneer who served on the City Council and the School Board. The pool was designed by Wesley Bintz, a Michigan engineer who patented the above-ground structures nearly a century ago. Over a period of 50 years starting in 1919, Bintz pools went up in communities across the nation. He also designed the Roy Jenkins Pool on Davis Islands.
